
The news – Currently the cottonseed, produced in abundance along with the cotton crop cannot be eaten as it contains the poisonous substance called gossypol, while rest of the seed content has high protein. An experiment by Texas researcher has proved that it is possible to remove the poisonous gossypol.
The good – Tremendous potential to bridge the protein deficiency among the poor at very low cost.
The bad – Engineering the nature always has potential drawbacks, and most of the time is not sustainable.
