Solution for an unpacking nuisance


The news – A packaging developed and suggested by Amazon relieves all of us from a frustration of opening the one.

The good - Echo friendly, easy to use and economical. Wonder why nobody else thought of it earlier? Wrong, lot many have thought, just that now the same is from Amazon, the news makes a headlines and yes Amazon being such a big packager the impact is also big.

The challenge – Not good enough for displaying the product in store. Solution is to keep the display pieces and the ones being sold in different packaging.

The endless opportunity– For example, whenever I unpack a new formal shirt, I once think why they need so many things to pack one shirt – card board, plastic, pins, weighing almost same as shirt and so much not green. There is an opportunity to develop the alternative packaging for a formal shirt, which takes lot less material but provides similar handling of the shirt as current one.

The news -
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, launches Square – a mobile credit card payment device.

The good –
small business, specially the mobile businesses will benefit the most. Rest can enjoy the wireless experience too!

Unknown –
When in wrong hand, it will be difficult to track down the person who is misusing it.

The future –
A person won’t carry anything while on the move to Pay, Call, Click or Get access

For now - Mobile payment is not a new technology, you need to wait and see if Jack could innovate the business model.

Google now can explain words in local languages


The news – Google launched a dictionary service to provide synonyms and definitions in local languages.

The good – One stop shop for language translation, examples of how particular words are used in a given language, apart from definition and synonyms.

Unknown – All unused keywords might end up pointing to Google dictionary in good old Google search results.

Opportunity that was – After so many years of open opportunity, no single vendor has gained the popularity in the online dictionary offerings.

Engineered cottonseed can fill the protein deficiency in millions


The news – Currently the cottonseed, produced in abundance along with the cotton crop cannot be eaten as it contains the poisonous substance called gossypol, while rest of the seed content has high protein. An experiment by Texas researcher has proved that it is possible to remove the poisonous gossypol.

The good – Tremendous potential to bridge the protein deficiency among the poor at very low cost.

The bad
– Engineering the nature always has potential drawbacks, and most of the time is not sustainable.

The news – A contest which requires the contestants to form team and pin point the location of specific number of balloons in various areas of USA. The communication and the strategy among the team members happen online and the actual hunt for the balloon is offline.

The good – This is a step towards studying how intelligence and location of various people can be utilized in case of eventualities which are spread or is at a remote place.

Suggested strategy – Facilitate the theory of elimination, teams can trade location information where the balloons are not sighted.
